This project was a fast paced self initiated one that was inspired by a singular character. I noticed that a heavy block serif ‘E’ could be formed in such a way that a lower case ‘c’ could be seen within it. I then thought this could be an excellent logo for the documentary series “Cutting Edge” shown on Channel 4.
After this realisation and sketching down some shapes I instantly turned to Illustrator to refine my visuals. To choose a typeface to match my design I researched into Channel 4s branding used their brand guidelines book to find a typeface that would harmonise with their current identity. I chose a face called ‘Mirco’ which echoed Channel 4s face but had a more serious feel to it.
I perfected the logo in Illustrator and combined it with the title name. I then thought about furthering the design into movement and how it would work on screen. I took the shapes into Flash and created a short animation to show how the logo would work once animated. To view the animation follow the link: Cutting Edge Ident.
I think this project shows what I am capable of in such a short period of time. The total time of this work from pencil sketch to full visual and animation was just in one evening.
